ProAmpac, a leading Cincinnati-based flexible packaging champion, has acquired a well-known Chicago-based TC Transcontinental Packaging giant from its holding company, TC Transcontinental, for $1.51 billion. ProAmpac states that this acquisition will help them accelerate in medical, pharmaceutical, meat and dairy end markets and also modernize the development of fiber-related, barrier films and monomaterial structures solutions.
This acquisition deal might be locked in the first quarter of 2026, entitled to customary conditions. Both companies have strong financial pillars and recognition, which makes the acquisition a worthwhile move to advance the packaging game in their respective operations.
ProAmpac is formed via acquisitions, and this recent announcement is a valuable and meaningful move in this recent streak. In October, the company acquired International Papers bag-converting procedures. Consistently engaging in back-to-back business strategy in August, the company also acquired PAC Worldwide, a Pacific Northwest-related e-commerce packaging champion. Last year, it acquired UP Paper, a recycled kraft paper producer, and Gelpac, a producer of polywoven and multiwall paper packaging.
The head of investing and managing partner at Pritzker Private Capital (which acquired ProAmpac in 2016), Michael Nelson, said, “We have managed a continuous, long-standing promise to position ProAmpac into a popular packaging provider. The provider that contributes to acquisition and organic growth to satisfy customers demand for valuable, sustainable packaging solutions. The meaningful acquisition of TCP follows the strategic footprint by integrating a well-recognized provider of innovative solutions in the complementary markets and extends the presence of ProAmpac universally.”
As far as TCP and ProAmpac are concerned, they are two giants in the North American flexible packaging industry. ProAmpac claimed that it holds $3 billion in business, finely and precisely classified paper-based and plastic packaging. At the same time, TCP has built an estimated $1.2 billion in revenue in 12 months. Latest, the TCP has 25 production plants and 3,500 employees throughout Latin America, New Zealand, North America, and the U.K. Its key offerings include plastic, pouches, bags, labels, and shrink films, among others.
Later, in October, TC Transcontinental sold its robust industrial packaging operations to Hood Packaging for $95 million. The board chair of TC Transcontinental, Isabelle Marcoux, said, “As we have come near our 50th anniversary, we are again rediscovering within our operations, goals, and more. We are thrilled to begin with a new chapter in our legacy of hard work with a sharp aim on upgrading the transformation of our Educational Publishing businesses and Retail Services & Printing.”
