Italian flexible packaging converter Sacchital Group has become the first corporation worldwide to install Screen’s Truepress PAC 520P, a new digital inkjet press designed for paper-based flexible packaging using water-based inks compliant with European security standards.
The installation, supported by Screen’s Italian supplier REM, marks a “noteworthy” step in the transition from plastic to sustainable paper packaging. The move shows increasing demand for recyclable, low-influence resources and aligns with the future EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which endorses superior circularity transversely the sector.
According to Alberto Palaveri, executive member of the Board at Sacchital, CEO at Åkerlund and Rausing (part of Sacchital Group), and president of Giflex, the venture helps the company’s idea of uniting sustainability with presentation. “As the market changes toward sustainability, we desired to be proactive. The Screen Truepress PAC 520P permits us to provide a digital resolution for paper packing that is flexible, competitive, and environmentally conscious,” he expressed.
The Truepress PAC 520P is designed for printing on recyclable, heat-sealable paper substrata. Its water-based inkjet technology enables short-run, variable printing, offering faster turnaround and reduced waste. Sacchital can now deliver finalized packing reels within 48 hours, enhancing time-to-market for use cases such as seasonal elevations, market testing, and SKU propagation.
Yukiyoshi Tanaka, president of Screen Graphic Solutions, said the connection marks a milestone in Screen’s entrance into the flexible paper packaging market. “This collaboration with Sacchital signals a major step forward in our mission to drive sustainable innovation in packaging,” he noted.
The Truepress PAC 520P integrates easily into existing manufacturing environments, enabling converters to adopt digital paper packaging without major operational changes. Its compressed, proven, and design-inkjet stand, already utilized extensively in commercial and label printing, provides both scalability and flexibility.
As part of their business, Sacchital and Screen idea to discover new applications and help consumers transition to paper-based packing formats. Mr Palaveri added: “With Screen, we’re not just connecting a new press we’re supporting to shape the upcoming of sustainable packing.”
