NORMA Switches to Koehler Paper Recyclable Heat-Sealable Packaging for Private Label Products

NORMA grocery stores across Germany, France, the Czech Republic, and Austria will soon introduce select private label items in recyclable, heat-sealable paper packaging developed by Koehler Paper. The material reportedly meets Cepi’s recyclability criteria, aligning with industry efforts to improve sustainability in packaging.

The packaging, known as Koehler NexPlus Advanced, is described as grease-resistant and equipped with both oxygen and oil barriers. It was created through close collaboration between Koehler Innovation & Technology’s R&D specialists and the Koehler Paper team as part of the NexFlex line of recyclable flexible papers. The goal behind the NexFlex portfolio is to replace traditional plastic packaging by utilizing paper-based barrier materials whenever possible.

This product range features both coated and uncoated papers designed for laminates, pouches, sachets, and similar packaging formats, suitable for a variety of food and non-food applications. Within the series, Koehler NexCoat offers a single-sided coated paper known for its smooth surface and excellent dimensional stability, while Koehler NexPure provides an uncoated, naturally textured option.

Earlier in the year, Koehler Paper also joined forces with Wimbée to create what is claimed to be the first cardboard cap for aerosol cans featuring a paper coating. The innovation, applied in Héritage’s O’Cedar furniture care line, utilizes NexCoat Smart, a material recognized for its superior fold-crack resistance, printability, and formability helping to reduce the overall environmental footprint of the packaging.

In a related development, Lecta unveiled its Creaset GP PFAS-Free FP paper, a high-gloss, single-side coated paper intended for flexible packaging. The material delivers strong grease resistance alongside excellent flexibility and print quality. By removing PFAS from the formulation, Lecta aims to support brands in meeting evolving regulatory standards and growing consumer demand for safer, more sustainable packaging solutions.
