Amcor is a global leader in emerging and producing accountable packaging options, has joined with Belgium-based De Ceuster Meststoffen NV (DCM) to present a new recycle-ready, mono-material polyethylene (PE) film for its fertilizer portfolio in Europe. The invention replaces DCM’s previous multi-material packaging construction, which was not planned for recycling in existing recycling streams.
The new packages also include 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and are obtainable in sizes varying from 650 grams to 7 kilograms, offering a high-presentation, recycled-ready packaging option while helping DCM’s broader sustainability plan. Life cycle valuation data shows that the change to film with 35% PCR content offers a 17% decrease in carbon footprint, helping the brand’s carbon reduction goals and circular economy aims.
Alongside its ecological advantages, the film is produced utilizing a combination of machine-direction oriented polyethylene (MDO PE) and a useful sealant layer. The MDO structure delivers reliable defense against gas and moisture access while upholding high tensile strength and resistance to tearing or puncturing. The pack’s safe seal decreases outer-layer deformation, and the film’s rigidity supports smaller packs staying upright on the shelf. A high-gloss finish improves brand visibility, and customers appeal at the point of sale.
“Sustainability has been one of the core pillars of DCM’s corporate philosophy since the corporation was founded in 1976,” expressed Sofie Peeters, communication manager at DCM. “This latest packaging invention is another step forward in offering superior-quality fertilizer products while advancing our ecological goals.”
“The combination of recycle-ready, mono-material structure with post-consumer recycled content establishes Amcor’s commitment to proceeding circular packaging option,” expressed Neal Geryl, sales director at Amcor. “This option allows brands to advance their sustainability purposes while preserving product protection and shelf appeal and helps consumers across Europe in making for upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements.”
