Celluforce, the known leader in cellulose nanocrystals, introduced Cellushield, a quality performance bio-related barrier coating that strengthens recyclable flexible packaging without compromising shelf life or product security. The cellushield is a renewable-based cellulose and has been formulated as a water-based coating. It merges brilliant moisture and oxygen barrier properties with suitability for the existing recycling streams. By providing mono-material structures, the technology supports packaging manufacturers in fulfilling performance demands and achieving circular economy goals. Established in partnership with FPInnovations, Cellushield mirrors Canada’s promise to empower and advance innovative, sustainable packaging solutions.
With this launch, Celluforce has introduced new advancements into the packaging industry and has paved new pathways for recyclable flexible packaging. The Cellushield holds the potential to benefit converters, consumers, and brand owners. The sustainable solution to the packaging accelerates the product value and doubles the empowerment for the supply chain to enthusiastically receive an excellent response from every end, with a sound satisfaction. The company will then strengthen its position and mark a new milestone in its portfolio and continue to serve the sustainable solution to brands and startups as well. The cellushield is a push to the packaging industry.
Cellushield safeguards pharmaceuticals, food, and other precious/sensitive products, eliminating hazardous chemicals or complicated multilayer laminates. Additional prior benefits are its high barrier performance, recyclable mono-material design, and safety and renewability.
President and CEO of Celluforce, Sebastien Corbeil, said,
“Converters and brand owners don’t need to juggle between recyclability and performance. Cellushield serves as a practical solution that will keep the products safe, easily define recycling, and reduce carbon footprint with a water-based technology that works on existing equipment.”
Cellushield is designed for seamless integration on existing production lines. It is applied by using reverse gravure coating and operates with the standard lamination for PP, PET, and PE films. It is available in the market as a ready-to-use coating or as a pre-coated film for in-house application for pipeline supply chain integration. For converters, it is a shift to a recyclable high-barrier structure without extensive retooling.
For brand owners, it is an achievable goal for 100% recyclable packaging and reduce carbon use while expanding shelf life. The consumers will receive benefits from the safer and sustainable packaging. This is an encouragement in the packaging value chain. This will help brands to go ahead with the recyclable packaging, promoting sustainability and contributing to clean energy.
