Huhtamaki India Hosts the 2nd Edition of the Think Circle

On 10th January 2025, Huhtamaki India, which is a part of Huhtamaki Oyj and a leading provider of primary consumer packaging and decorative labeling solutions, hosted the 2nd Edition of the Think Circle. The event, planned in collaboration with the Embassy of Finland and data partner Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), kicked off with a limited, closed-door discussion and displayed a presentation having the new 'Design for Recycling Guidance for Films and Flexible Packaging.' These plans, established and launched by the CII-India Plastics Pact’s (IPP) inventiveness in December 2024, mark an essential moment in progressing a circular economy in India for flexible packaging.

The programme observed contributions from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and several other leading companies in this sector, think tanks, innovators, and policymakers, showcasing the available chances in transforming India's packaging network. As a share of the occasion, a board discussion titled “Redefining the circularity of flexible packaging in India,” presented an honoured team of panellists’, counting Rashi Agarwal, Chief Business Officer, Banyan Nation, Snigdha Berry, Corporate Affairs, Nestlé; Chinmaya Dandekar, GM – Packaging and Sustainability, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd., Vishal Poojara, Procurement and Packaging Sustainability, ASEAN region, Mondelez India, Sanjay Gupta, Head of Packaging, DS Group, and Dhananjay Salunkhe, Managing Director of Huhtamaki India. The conference was moderated by Vice President, Strategic Business Development and Marketing, Flexible Packaging at Huhtamaki, Ruturaj Kamthekar.

The packaging segment faces important hurdles in recyclability because of the extensive use of multifaceted, non-recyclable resources. The recently presented strategies offer technical and viable inputs to administrations, supporting them in transitioning to recyclable flexible packaging. These strategies goal to raise consciousness and promote the use of mono-material plans, confining injurious stains like carbon black, and supporting recyclable barrier layers.

Managing Director at Huhtamaki India, Dhananjay Salunkhe, expressed, “We are proud to host the presentation of these design guidelines for flexible packaging in India. The country faces challenges with effective plastic waste management and is at a critical juncture in redefining its packaging practices. These guidelines are a crucial step toward creating a circular economy by ensuring flexible packaging is designed for recyclability. At Huhtamaki, we are committed to collaborating with partners to raise awareness and support the widespread adoption of recyclable packaging, contributing to a more circular future.”
