KM Packaging, a leading British packaging company, has launched new K-Peel 4G, which is a mono-polyethylene terephthalate (PET) lidding film. The film is suitable for chilled, frozen, and ambient uses, where it is also stated that it can achieve clean peels at low temperatures like 110 °C with a dwell time of 03. Seconds. The company claims that the launch is expected to cater to the changing demands in the food packaging sector.

The exceptional characteristics of the film help in sealing even in the presence of contaminants. It is a versatile film that ensures the robustness of PET trays and also provides an advantage in amorphous and recycled PET trays. This is significantly helping in eliminating the sealing difficulties associated with limited sealing areas and thickness. The OM7 migration testing and antifog characteristics have broadened their application across multiple segments in the food industry.

The newly launched film is currently available in two thicknesses, 21 and 25 microns, where the thinner one is used for minimizing film thickness during production, which also improves operational efficiency.

The commercial director of KM Packaging Eire & UK expressed his thoughts on the launch by saying, “We are pleased to launch the new material into the food packaging. “He further added, The advantages of a low seal imitation temperature mean K-Peel 4G has a broad range of lidding applications across the industry. The adaptability of 4G is what sets it apart from the rest.

The CEO concluded by saying - “Whilst the impact of EPR [extended producer responsibility] and RAM [Recyclability Assessment Methodology] may question the cost impact on PET-based films, ultimately their efficiency, low weight, ovenability and ease of use prove that they still have a relevant and valuable place in the tray-sealing and lidding film arena.”

The company is significantly working towards promoting sustainability in the food packaging sector, as they previously launched a range of sustainable lidding films in the Australian market. The active product range in the markets is REDcycle, Post Consumer Recycled Material/Resin, and compostable.
